This is the amazing story of a teenager, Chris, struggling to survive against bullying and domestic violence. The story successfully illustrates the beauty of friendship and the kindness of strangers, which restore faith in humanity. Chris’s love for animals, especially for the filly, Cocoa, overwhelms the reader as well as the characters. It is a beautiful story on social issues, written with a positive attitude. The character of Chris is quite remarkable and inspiring. It will inspire young readers to respect moral values and to stand against injustice, but within social and legal norms

Racing the wild is about a young boy named Chris who faces family problems and finds out a secret his mothers kept from him his whole life. Get ready for a roller coaster of emotions while you go on an adventure. I loved the book and couldn’t wait to see what happened next.

You can tell the author did their research from how the MC behaves. A bit of a slow burn but seeing other people slowly befriending the MC is nothing short of heartwarming

I liked various things in the book. The first is how the book got my interest and eagerness to read the book further right from the first chapter. This occurred due to the suspense feeling I felt when Chris started his new school. I was eager to know if and how he would survive or if he would be faced with the same bullying situation that made him leave his previous school. I also enjoyed the message the book passed to young adults about being confident against bullies, such as how Chris was able to defend himself after his first day at school against three bullies. Reading this book made me learn and understand more about horses and their nature. The various skilful handling and manoeuvres of Cocoa by Chris during his journey gave me an interest in trying out horseback riding anytime I have the opportunity in the future. I rate this book five out of five stars because of the things I stated earlier that I liked in the book. Another reason why I am giving the book a perfect rating is due to the author's use of hand-drawn, sketched pictures. Apart from the pictures being a visual representation of some characters in the story, it also added an unusual touch of art to the narration.
